They forgot to check the door lock mechanism on the driver’s door. Some tapping from the engine, but could just need to get the oil circulated better since they just drained the oil to replace the oil pan gasket.

Car is repaired
Brandi called to report that the car is done. I will pick it up in the morning.
Checked status once again
Stopped in at Ray’s again. They still have not started the work on it. Ray is very apologetic.
He says they will “definitely” get to it on Monday.
Checked repair status at Ray’s
Stopped by Ray’s to check on the status. They have not yet started on the repairs. I told them that I really need to get it back soon. They will do their best to get it done today or tomorrow.
Dropped off for servicing
Dropped it off at Ray’s to be serviced. The alternator belt is squeaking (very badly!) and the oil pan and transmission pan are leaking (gasket issues).
Air cleaner doesn’t fit!
The factory air cleaner doesn’t fit the aftermarket carb that CRU installed (against my wishes). Aaarrrggghhh!
Received 383 pie tin
Received the “Super Commando 383” pie tin for the air cleaner. Tested the fit and it’s great.
Repairs complete
Paid repair bill at Ernie’s.
Ernie’s calls with repair details
Mike calls from Ernie’s to report their findings:
- Brake lines all look good, so any leak must be from master cylinder.
- Couple of belts are in really bad shape. (One bad, one apparently just real loose.)
- Power steering appears okay, but is wet around it so there might be a leak in the housing itself, but seals appear okay. (Note: Power steering fluid was not low, so it is probably not from that.)
- Tires are real bad. (But I knew that.) I explained that I knew that and was delaying replacing them until other work was finished. He will get a price for me on new tires.
Asked him to look into front-end “float” at speeds above 45 MPH.
Drove car to Ernie’s
Drove car to Ernie’s Auto Service. (After topping off the brake fluid.) Drove pretty good at 40 MPH, but I do detect some front-end “float” above that speed.
